Outline Mode Basics
Edit sections and the writing brief, then turn a plan into a draft.
Open Outline to organise the document before drafting. You can use a plan created from discovery or work with the outline inside an existing document.
Shape the plan
Edit section titles and descriptions, add or remove sections, and arrange their order. Use subsections when they make a longer piece easier to follow.
A short notice may need only three parts: observed facts, limitations and the next step. It does not need a long article template.
Keep factual notes precise. Include dates, quantities and unresolved decisions that the draft must preserve.
Update the writing brief
Open Writing brief in the handoff panel. Record the audience, purpose, language, length and factual constraints here.
For example: “Write 120 words in three paragraphs. Six people replied; the sample was not representative. No decision has been made.”
Later corrections belong in the brief too. Check generated section descriptions for unsupported additions before drafting.
Move to Write
Choose Start writing to open the editor. This opens the writing space without turning outline instructions into document text.
If the editor is empty and has a saved brief or outline, Preview first draft generates a suggestion. Read it, refine or edit it if needed, and choose Use this draft when ready. You can also write your own draft. An outline is optional when your brief is ready.
Changes to the outline are planning changes; use the editor to change existing prose.
