AI Assistant Basics
Give useful context, apply a saved writing style, and refine suggestions without losing your original.
AI tools help you explore an idea, draft from a plan, revise a passage or review a document. Choose the tool for the change you want.
Supply the context that matters
Include the purpose, intended readers, source facts and constraints. State what is unknown and whether new fictional details are allowed.
For example: “Shorten this update to two paragraphs. Keep every date and number. Do not add benefits or explain causes that are not in the source.”
During discovery, record corrections explicitly. In Outline, use Writing brief to keep the task and facts available when generating a first draft.
Select a writing style
Choose a saved style in the document. You can write instructions yourself or extract them from a sample of your writing, then review and save them.
Describe concrete preferences: sentence length, vocabulary, dialect, paragraph structure and punctuation. Selecting a style guides generation; it does not guarantee that every output follows it.
Review and refine
Writing tools show a suggestion before changing the draft. Compare it with the original, then apply or dismiss it.
To refine a suggestion, state the exact change: “Keep paragraph one unchanged. Make paragraph two less formal.” The refinement works on the visible suggestion.
If generation fails, keep your original text and use the offered retry. If applying a result changes the wrong wording, use Undo.
